Those who know what honor means will be cheered to see that they are not entirely alone...there are those who recognize something far greater than their own passions...A good and perfect gift, these natural desires. But so much the more necessary that they be ... controlled...that they might be reborn in power and purity for God.
Wherever you are, be all there. Live to the hilt every experience you believe to be the will of God.
The man and his wife are an analogy of Christ and the Church, His Bride. He woos us, calls us, wins us, gives us His name, shares with us His destiny, takes responsibility for us, loves us with a love stronger than death.
Through affairs of the heart God uncovers our true intentions.
We are always held in the love of God. We are never wholly at the mercy of other people- they are only "second causes," and no matter how many second or third of fiftieth causes seem to be in control of what happens to us, it is God Who is in charge, He Who holds the keys, He who casts the lot finally into the lap...I must trust God to do...better than I know.
Love interprets things in favor of the... loved...The trouble, of course, is that we must learn to love people. People are sinners. Love must be patient when it is tempted to be impatient. Love must not be selfish, even if other people are. Love does not take offence, though people are offensive sometimes. There are wrongs, but love won't keep score. There are things to be faced, but nothing love can't face, things to try love's faiths, discourage its hope, and call for its endurance; but it keeps right on trusting, hoping, and enduring. Love never ends...
Almighty God, You alone can bring into order the unruly wills and affections of sinners: Grant Your people grace to love what You command and desire what You promise; that, among the swift and varied changes of the world, our hearts may surely there be fixed where true joys are to be found; through Jesus Christ our Lord, Who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
